Location, location, location doesn’t just apply to what to look for when getting your first apartment post-graduation, it dictates something much bigger than that: what city you move to. Yes, there are tech jobs everywhere but some cities just have more of a payoff.Dice.com, a career site for those in technology and engineering, got the input of over 17,000 professionals in 2013 about how much they make for its annual salary survey. All of the top 10 cities had average salaries over $90,000 and Silicon Valley hit six figures. But while San Francisco or New York might be the first cities you consider when looking for a tech-savvy, post-college abode, the regions are not exactly friendly to graduates with measly bank accounts and student loans. You’ll probably want to make the leap to Silicon Valley sooner or later, but when you’re just starting out, there are plenty of U.S. cities that offer just as many amenities without the crazy rent.You’ve probably acquired plenty of skills in college, some of which even qualify you for a job. The ones that will take you furthest, according to Dice, are big data, anything cloud-related, project management, in mobile, have to do with front-end development, are in dev ops, or have to do with design UI/UX. So if you’re wondering how the last four years went by so quickly and don’t know where the next few years will take you, you might find that it’s to one of these cities.
